Q: How did the game go from your perspective?
A: Today, in general, the game went pretty much exactly as we wanted it to. [Earlier in the season, we] played teams that were definitely more defensive minded, and Oakville isn’t the type of team like that. So, when we got to play a team that was trying to really press us and play out on us and challenge us in a different way, it was really exciting. We knew that we had to score quickly to try and mess up their offense, and they also played a different defensive formation, which made it easier for [our] offense.
Q: Can you describe the first half of the game?
A: At the beginning, probably within two minutes [of] the game, Jose got a very good chance [at goal]. I think their center back made a mistake and we scored. To get the pressure on them of being down one early on definitely put the whole game in our favor because they were trying to just get the momentum back from that point. The first half was great because we stuck together defensively, and we were able to just play our game and possess the ball.
Q: Do you remember Coach Aronberg telling the team anything specific during half time?
A: We were up 2-0, and he said the next goal is going to win the game. He told us to come out with a lot of energy and be sure to get the next goal because that’s going to decide who will win the game.
Q: Can you describe the second half and how the game ended?
A: [In] the second half, we just had to play strong defensively. We got a good goal off of a corner play that led back to a cross, and we just had to tap in. From then, we were up 3-0, and Oakville was super panicked, so all we had to do was just play smart defense and close the game out. It was a game where everybody got to play by the end.
Q: Did Coach Aronberg say anything memorable after the game?
A: He told us that this was a blueprint game, which was great to hear, because it just shows that we had played really well, and it was a game that [we’ll] model everything else after.
Q: Anything you’re looking forward to for the rest of the season?
A: We’re really looking forward to playing [Christian Brothers College High School] because it’s at CBC which will be fun. We love to play Clayton because they’re our rivals, and we’re playing them at home. We’re also looking forward to playing [De Smet Jesuit High School] because I don’t know if we’ve ever beaten them, and we’ll play them at De Smet. It’ll be a fun game.
