The Ladue theater department performed “The Play That Goes Wrong”Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 from 7:00 – 9:15 p.m. and Oct. 26 from 1:00 – 3:15 p.m. at the Ladue Performing Arts Center.
The show depicts a murder mystery that goes horribly wrong with hysterical consequences.
“It’s kind of a play within a play,” Assistant Director Natalie Brunworth said. “It’s a thriller [like] who [committed the murder] and it’s really interesting. [The set is] falling apart around [characters] and they’re figuring out how to keep going.”
For this year’s Fall Play there is a small cast of only seven actors, but there is a big emphasis on the set.
“[The set] is a huge part of it, figuring out how everything will fit on stage, all the props and all of the different special effects, lighting and sound,” Brunworth said.
Auditions for the play began the second week of school, and the cast and crew have invested hundreds of hours of work since then to put this production together.
“We would meet from 2:45 p.m., right after school, to around 5:30 p.m., depending on the day,” Brunworth said.
The play creates a new perspective for the audience through the murder mystery, the set falling apart and even some of the crew will make an appearance on stage with the cast.
“The concept of the play itself is really great because [of] the story,” Brunworth said. “It’s hilarious with the murder mystery, but also the added comedy of it all just falling around [the actors].”
