At the National Honor Society meeting Sept. 4, the new board members describe the club to new and returning members in the multipurpose room. They highlighted the NHS clothes drive in which clothing items can be dropped off in room 1311.
After the introduction of the board and sponsors of NHS, multiple volunteer opportunities were shared. One nonprofit described was Super Joey, where students prepare meals for families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
While discussing different volunteer opportunities, the board also shared the expectations of the club members. Each member is required to receive eight points of volunteer hours per semester. One point is equal to one hour of volunteering. A new component to the point system is if a member skips a volunteer activity they signed up for the amount of points they would have received will be taken off their score for the semester.
The board emphasized that students can come together and give back to their community. Members can email the student outreach if they want to share a volunteer opportunity with the rest of the club. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30 after school.
