The boys water polo team hosted the annual Founder’s Cup tournament April 2-4. The tournament consisted of eight schools, which were separated into two brackets.
“My favorite part about the Founder’s Cup tournament is the camaraderie it builds as we play a challenging series of games throughout the weekend,” Cooper Keys (12) said. “It builds the team spirit and contributes to success we have later in the season.”
Over the weekend, Ladue played three games in their division. The team beat Oakville 10-5, but lost to Lafayette 10-4 and CBC 9-8 in a close game.
“The result of the tournament was not exactly what I wanted,” water polo captain Glen Widjaja (12) said. “But otherwise, I’m happy with our effort.”
In the placement games, Ladue fought hard against Desmet but lost 13-7. As a result, Ladue placed fourth overall at the Founder’s Cup tournament.
“I think the team came together for the last game,” Widjaja said. “Tommy, our coach, gave us a really good pep talk in the locker room before the game. He came up with a good plan about how to play against them.”
With one month left in the season, the boys water polo team looks ahead to their upcoming games. They will compete in the Lindbergh Invitational April 8-11.
“We’re looking forward to just winning more games, especially now that we’re in the groove of things,” Widjaja said.
