The girls swim and dive team hosted the annual conference meet Feb. 3-4 at Ladue. The swim meet consisted of 11 teams with a total of nearly 200 swimmers and divers. Swim prelims took place Feb. 3 while diving and swim finals were held Feb. 4. Ladue placed second overall with a score of 314 points, behind defending Class 1 State Champion Parkway Central.
“I’m beyond proud of everyone for their accomplishments at conference,” co-captain Ruby Jurgiel (11) said. “They all swam amazingly and there were a bunch of state cuts and PRs. It was so fun to cheer people on during their races and celebrate them afterward.”
Throughout the meet, several swimmers on the team placed in the top 16 and obtained or improved upon their state cuts. Additionally, Ellen Widjaja (9) and Niyumi Rajapaksha (10) both qualified for diving district championships, which will take place Feb. 14.
“I was ecstatic and very proud of myself,” Rajapaksh said. “It felt like all the hard work finally paid off and I felt so relieved I qualified [for districts].”
Looking forward to the rest of the season, the girls swim and dive team is preparing for the Class 1 State Championship Feb. 19-20.
“I’m very excited for state,” Jurgiel said. “I love the team so much and have been so lucky to see them grow throughout the season. I think that state will definitely reflect this and it will be a super fun meet overall.”
