Q: What was the podcast’s most recent episode about?
A: Our most recent episode on the podcast was about the 1790s, [so] the presidency of George Washington and then John Adams.
Q: What was your favorite episode this year and why?
A: I would say our episode on the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation was probably my favorite because we just got into a really good groove with each other where we were not really relying on our script, which we don’t often do. We just felt it flowed very well, and everybody made great points that I think allowed us to explain that time period pretty well.
Q: What kinds of things have you been implementing to keep your podcast engaging for listeners?
A: We got a new soundboard, so we have all these new sound [effects] that we can use now. That has been very fun for us. I’ve also heard from some audience members that they’re enjoying it, too. We’ll throw in, if somebody gets boring, the cricket sound, or if something’s important we’ll do an applause, so that’s been a lot of fun.
Q: What is the editing process like?
A: [The editing process] has gotten a lot easier, actually, because of our new sound system. Now we have our theme music uploaded into that sound system. Basically, once we start recording [or] when we’re ready for a transition sound, we can just press a button and it plays it for us. Whereas before that, I would go into GarageBand, and I would have to split each time we needed a transition, and I had to do it manually. It takes me probably 15 minutes to edit now, whereas before it was probably taking me 45 minutes.
Q: How often do you record episodes and what is the intention behind that timing?
A: We do [episodes] once a week. Typically, we record on Fridays after school, and then we have time to edit and upload over the weekend. We all used to have a similar prep period where we could record together [during school]. Now we really have to wait until after school or do it before school, which is fine. [Sometimes] it’s difficult to find time. Last week, I was out for three days, so we ended up recording on Wednesday at 6:30 in the morning. We try to make time for it so that we can get it done.
Q: What can we look forward to for upcoming episodes?
A: I think just getting all the way through American history. We started halfway through the [course] last year, so we started with the progressives, I want to say, or the age of American imperialism. Now, if you’re coming with us, you’re going to get all of American history from start to finish. I think that if you’re feeling [that] you don’t remember a lot from when you took US History, or you’re feeling lost in your current class, this should help.
