Ladue High School participated in an area-wide “Decades” themed Trivia Night, hosted by Kirkwood High School Feb. 5. Proceeds from the trivia night will go towards sponsoring journalismSTL’s Bruce Schneider Memorial Scholarship, which offers $1,000 to a senior publications student from the St. Louis area.
11 high schools competed at the event, with the Ladue team placing fourth.
“We were in the middle of a room full of very dedicated people,” Luke Ye (12) said. “I definitely felt the energy in the room whenever someone got an answer correct.”
The trivia night lasted for ten rounds, with categories including the press, famous addresses and book titles. There were also mini-games throughout: a scavenger hunt and a heads-or-tails game, which the Ladue team won.
“Going in, I was a little nervous,” Gabriella Beltranena (11) said. “But honestly, I felt really comfortable. I got to hang out with the people I normally hang out with in class outside of school, which was really fun.”
To answer the trivia, the Ladue team had to pull from math, science, music, pop culture knowledge and more. Although they did not end up winning, the experience, according to Ye, was worth it.
“During the middle, I’d say, is when our confidence peaked,” Ye said. “We kind of fell off towards the end, but it was a great time.”
