The cafeteria staff introduced a new lunch and snack kiosk March 2 at the cafeteria entrance to expand dining options ahead of a projected increase in enrollment for the 2026-27 school year.
Robin Phillips, a member of the cafeteria staff and a key organizer of the debut, spearheaded the initiative to accommodate the school’s expanding population. With the main lunchroom and the existing snack shack in the multipurpose room frequently occupied, this third location aims to distribute traffic and reduce the workload for staff members.
The expansion also supports nutritional goals for students. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, higher academic performance is frequently associated with regular meal consumption, especially vegetables and salads. By increasing the number of lunch options, the school ensures that more students have the time and access to eat.
“We’re getting a lot of incoming freshmen next year, so this is a great option for additional food,” Phillips said. “We also wanted to make sure that everyone is actually eating.”
Molly Shipley (12) was among many students who were pleasantly surprised by the sudden appearance of the kiosk. It caught the attention of many students and teachers, many of whom were accustomed to the space being vacant.
“I was really interested when I saw it,” Shipley said. “I never knew it was in use until now and decided to check it out right away.”
Beyond shorter wait times, the new spot provides an opportunity for more direct interaction between the kitchen staff and student body. For Phillips, the influx of students offers a chance to build rapport with new faces.
“Since the opening, we’ve had many many students coming by to check it out,” Phillips said. “I really appreciate it.”
