The varsity boys volleyball team has gone on an impressive win streak since the beginning of their season with a record of 8-0. Their season began when they played St. Mary’s South Side March 24 and won 3-0. The varsity team won against Eureka 3-0 April 9. The team has protected their record by supporting one another and communicating throughout each game.
“Our team has played some tough games and we’ve been able to keep winning through communicating and talking to help continue with our success,” libero Gavin Bader (10) said.
Last season, the varsity team had a record of 16-8-2. However, with a new varsity lineup and a new head coach, the team morale has improved from last year, contributing to their undefeated season.
“It has felt really good to be undefeated this year, especially coming off of our record for previous seasons,” middle blocker Landon Page (11) said. “We definitely knew that our team was much stronger from the beginning in comparison to the past and it’s very exciting to know that the work we’ve been doing has paid off.”
The varsity team has been additionally focusing on different aspects of volleyball to improve their connections on the court and teammate bonds off the court.
“This season, we have had a much stronger focus on what individual people’s strengths are and focusing on that in practices,” Page said. “Volleyball is also an extremely mental and connection based game, so we have been working on lots of team connections to minimize our personal errors and feel comfortable with each other on the court.”
The team plays next against Gateway Science Academy April 14, who has a record of 2-3. The team hopes to continue their win streak, putting them on the path to be successful in districts.
“I look forward to [the team] continuing our record this season,” Page said. “We are really hoping to make it past districts and just continue winning all around.”
