Modded vehicles roar down the drag strip, reaching intense speeds as drivers chase victory at Midnight Madness. Meanwhile, on the drifting track, drivers intentionally lose traction, turning skilled oversteers into controlled slides around a series of traffic cones. The last event of the 2025 season was held Oct. 24, drawing big crowds. Earlier in the evening, the gates opened at 6 p.m., welcoming racers and spectators. “They also have a parking section where people can show off their cars,” Gavin Brantmeier Prabhakar (11) said. “I have a lot of fun and I’m always entertained.”

The last Midnight Madness of the 2025 season was held Oct. 24. Gates opened at 6 p.m. for drag racing, followed by drifting at 7 p.m., before the event ended at 12 a.m. Normally held on the first Friday of every month with a $20 entry fee, throughout the spring, summer and fall, Midnight Madness is every car lover’s getaway. This event, hosted at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, IL, gives car enthusiasts the safe legal space where they can have fun.
“There’s always new cars to watch and enjoy,” Gavin Brantmeier Prabhakar (11) said. “It’s also fun talking to the owners of the cars to learn more about them.”
Brantmerier Prabhakar first heard about the event from a friend and has been a regular at the event for about two years. He normally is accompanied by his friends, Mike Theodosiou (11) and George Budke (11).
“The biggest difference between Midnight Madness and other car shows or meets would be that I feel a much greater sense of safety and security,” Brantmeier Prabhakar said.
That heightened sense of security is what truly defines the event, transforming the raceway into a risk-free zone where participants can focus on fun.
“I love being able to go with friends,” Budke said. “I enjoy watching the races and seeing all different, unique cars.”
Unlike spontaneous street meets, the organized structure of Midnight Madness eliminates the uncertainty and danger that is often associated with car culture today. As of right now there is no ‘official’ start date for the 2026 season but past seasons have started normally around April or March.
“They usually have police and an ambulance present at the events,” Brantmeier Prabhakar said. “The thrill of watching cool cars drive in action fascinates me, and is the main reason why I keep going.”
