Submissions for Melodrama, Ladue’s annual literary magazine, closed March 13. Submissions opened Dec. 8 and have received over 55 submissions as of March 9. The publication accepts poetry, cooking, photography and art of all forms.
“We send out an email blast to the student body every year,” Senior Editor-in-Chief Celina Zhou (12) said. “It is for anyone who has something they’re proud of to submit.”
Before submissions closed, the staff of 15 people is working to get as many people involved as possible. Their goal is to highlight the variety of unique art in Ladue.
“Right now, we’re working on contacting people and getting submissions,” Junior Editor-in-Chief Medha Chode (11) said. “Later, we’re going to be organizing submissions and working with the staff to finish [the designs].”
They will begin sorting through the submissions after spring break, preparing to put together the final product. Each piece typically receives one page themed around their work.
“We will go through and select the ones we will have in Melodrama,” Chode said. “Then, we pick what section they’re going to be in and assign people to pages.”
Submissions are collected via a google form where students can upload their work and choose what name it will be published under. Some students choose to use their real name, pen name or remain anonymous.
“We have gotten a lot of responses so far,” Junior Editor-in-Chief Loukya Gillella (11) said. “We are hoping to get even more in these next couple of days.”
