Q: What are you most excited about for this year’s girls’ soccer team?
A: The Quincy trip is always a highlight. We weren’t able to go last year so I’m looking forward to going again this year.
Q: What is your main goal for this season for the team?
A: For the girls to enjoy their season and make life long memories. It would be awesome if we could win our conference, win our pool in the Champions League and win districts, but those won’t happen if we aren’t coming together as a team first.
Q: How are you going to best prepare the team to reach this goal?
A: Lean into team bonding activities and continue stressing the importance of having a team first mentality.
Q: What is your main goal for this season for yourself?
A: Be a good communicator and be prepared for game situations.
Q: How are you going to best prepare yourself to reach this goal?
A: By coming up with good scouting reports for the teams we play.
Q: What are you most proud of about the team last season, and how are you taking that into this season?
A: Last year’s team finished with a really good 19-4 record and earned us a spot in the Champions League this year. I think it showed the girls that we can be taken seriously on the biggest stage. But we didn’t win the district championship game which was a bit of a let down. While we had great individual talent, we didn’t always play like a great team. Those lessons will be applied this year by the group I hope.
Q: Beyond the actual sport, what is one lesson you hope every player walks away with by the end of the season?
A: I hope every girl walks away with a sense of belonging that you can only get by being part of a team sport. Team sports are hard to play but they are so rewarding to be a part of.
Q: Are there any specific games or rivalries on the calendar that the team is particularly excited for this year?
A: There’s a team named Clayton that we seem to have a good rivalry with. That game raises my blood temperature a little.
