The girls’ varsity soccer team starts their season March 11 with a jamboree against St. Dominic, Rockwood Summit and Westminster. They are coming off of a strong finish last year, and are hoping to improve even more this year.
“My goal for the team this year is to win districts,” Lila Meyers (12) said. “We were super close last year and made it to the district finals. This year I think we can go further.”
The future for this team is optimistic with 18 returning varsity players and a 19-4 record for last year’s season.
“My goal for the team is to stay connected on the field and work hard to do the best we can,” Samantha Rochester (10) said.
A highlight for most players is the two team bonding trips. The team travels to Quincy, Illinois and Kansas City, Missouri where they face off against out of town teams.
“I am most looking forward to the Quincy trip because it will be my first time traveling with Ladue and I am excited to spend time with the players,” Rochester said.
After the jamboree, the team’s first game will be an away game against Parkway West March 24.
“I’m looking forward to Parkway West [because] a lot of my club friends play on that team and it makes me really excited to be able to see them on the field again,” Meyers said.
The team focuses on building bonds both on and off the field. The friendships are made outside of games, are shown in competition through the team’s connection.
“My favorite part of being on the team is the community,” Meyers said. “We’re all super close and it makes it so much more fun.”
