The Asian Culture and Advocacy Group held a meeting Feb. 5 to discuss plans for their matcha fundraiser. The fundraiser will occur Feb. 17 in the cafeteria with ACAG members managing the matcha sales.
ACAG meets monthly, and the club is led by a board of seven officers, including Queena Xu (12). During their latest meeting, members decided that all proceeds from the matcha fundraiser would go to UNICEF.
“In the meeting, we talked about the fundraiser and how it’s going to work,” Xu said. “We posted the sign-up sheet for the fundraiser and discussed our Lunar New Year celebrations, including the activities we were going to do.”
To promote the event, members plan to hang posters around the school and share information about it on the morning announcements. The matcha fundraiser is a way for the club to raise money without having to spend a lot of time on preparation.
“The matcha itself is pretty simple to set up, since we just buy the powder and make the concentrate with water,” Xu said.
ACAG launched the fundraiser last year, and its initial success prompted the officers to make it an annual tradition, adding new activities like a performative male contest to draw more participants.
“My favorite part about the matcha fundraiser is probably the performative male contest,” Xu said. “It’ll be pretty funny and could get more people to buy a matcha or join ACAG.”
