English Club went to Conway Elementary School to help with the English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program Oct. 13. English Club members travel to either Spoede or Conway each week to help with the ESOL program.
The club is led by co-presidents Kimmi Lin (12) and Cindy Liu (12). They attend sessions every week along with a few other members who sign up for time slots. Since the club recently started going to elementary schools, members are just now learning club basics.
“Last week, we went to Spoede and the teacher gave us an introduction on how to teach the kids,” club member Kai Chen (11) said.
With Conway being a new elementary school that the club attends, members have only worked with kids in their program twice so far. Both times, English Club members played word games with some of the kids.
“This year, there’s a lot more people, but a lot more high schoolers than elementary school students, so there probably won’t be a buddy system,” Lin said. “We’ll probably just work together to make activities.”
The club has met a total of three times since the school year started. Because of limited spots, many members have yet to work with the kids.
“My favorite part [will] probably be working with kids,” Chen said. “[I] haven’t done it yet, but I’m pretty excited.”
Initially, the club only traveled to Spoede. As their membership has grown, they discussed expanding to other elementary schools.
“I think it’s good to expand the club, make it a little bigger, because it seems like there’s more interest in it this year than there was in the previous years,” Lin said. “It’d be good to expand for future years.”

This is the second time they have worked with the Conway ESOL Program. “[By being in English Club] I hope to make more connections with kids and help them,” Zhou said.](https://laduetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/english-club-1200x900.jpg)
