The Ladue Rams varsity Football team defeated Hazelwood East 17-6 on Friday, Sept. 19, in an intense game.
The coin toss decided that the Hazelwood East Spartans would start with the ball first, but they were unsuccessful and were forced to punt the ball to the Rams. The Rams were also unsuccessful in their attack. The back-and-forth continued throughout the first quarter, leaving the game tied 0-0 after the first 12 minutes.
Eight seconds into the second quarter, the Spartans running back scored a touch down, but the extra point was blocked by the Rams defensive line, earning them six points. The Rams bounced back at the end of the third quarter when Ladue’s quarterback, Jack Hensley (12), threw a pass into the end zone to Evan Via (11). The Rams kicker, Benny Kimbombi (12), successfully scored the extra point, and put Ladue ahead 7-6 at halftime.
To start the third quarter, Ladue attempted an unsuccessful field goal. Hensley threw a pass to Trevor Walker (10), who ran it all the way to the two yard line. Mason Marden (12) then put the Rams up 13-6 by catching a touchdown pass. The extra point put Ladue in the lead 14-6.
In the fourth quarter Kimbombi kicked a field goal for three extra points. Neither team scored any more points for the remainder of the game, making Ladue triumphant over Hazelwood East 17-6.
![The Ladue Football Team runs out onto the field for their game. Ladue played Hazelwood East Sept.19 and won 17-6. “Heading into that game, Hazelwood was a top 10 Class 5 team in the state, and they were scoring over 40 points a game,” Varsity Assistant Coach Jace Mortimer said. “They also had only allowed six points all season. It was a testament to our defense, only allowing [them to score] six points.”](https://laduetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/BX3A9890-1200x800.jpg)
