Q: Does the club have any upcoming meetings or events?
A: We try to have meetings every other Thursday. So our next meeting will be November 4.
Q: What does the club typically do when they meet?
A: Our club is all about faith and fellowship, so as a group of athletes. It’s very student led. As the advisor, I kind of sit back and let our student leaders lead the activities that they’re doing. So typically, there will be some activity at the very beginning. It could be a game, it could be a discussion, it could be something to just help everybody bond together. Then from there, we will have an opening prayer and go through lessons that are taught through FCA that kind of guide the students in what passages to be reading and discussion questions to ask. It’s not as structured as you would think. It’s a lot of discussion based on your faith and based on personal experiences. There’s a lot of different directions our meetings can go just based on what we’re talking about.
Q: What is the goal of having the FCA?
A: Faith and fellowship, it’s all about building a community around a shared Christian belief. Our athletes want to make sure that they build a community around those shared beliefs and connect with others and help others grow in their relationship with God and their relationships with each other and grow just as humans.
Q: Why should students join the FCA?
A: We are a Christian centered organization, however it’s open to everybody of all faiths and all beliefs. With the idea of building a solid community, it’s very centered around mentorship. You have a lot of older students, a lot of seniors who take pride in mentoring a lot of the younger students, a lot of our freshmen, a lot of our sophomores, who are new athletes and maybe find a community for them to just get some guidance. What we’re trying to do is find a way to get our students to continue to grow as people together through faith.
Q: Who are the student leaders?
A: Our two leaders are Jack Hensley, senior and Benny Kibombi, a senior.
Q: Is it a big commitment to be in the FCA?
A: Absolutely not. Like I said about every other Thursday, we try to meet for 45 minutes to an hour. Typically it’s after practices. Just because we’re all athletes, and so we all have practices, so we’ll meet after practice, it’s not a big commitment. There’s no requirements that you have to meet. There’s no set like, ‘hey, you have to be at this many meetings to be part of it’. It’s, you know, come whenever you can, we’ll welcome you with open arms. It’s a way for all of us to get in a small group and build that community and build those relationships.
